ABOUT CATEGORIES & DIVISIONS
Categories are divided into draws by age, gender, and ability in order that matches can be competitively fair and as safe as possible.

Competitors must register in the correct category of ability as defined below.

Competitors may fight up to other weight and age divisions provided they  are registered to compete in their respective division. Competitors can not fight up into another ability or into vets/execs age division - this rule applies to all sports taking place at the West Midlands County Cup excluding open weight categories.

For the safety of other competitors, anyone who is found to be entered in the wrong division of ability will be moved to a division that reflects their true ability.

Years of Competitive Experience/Training Estimated colour of current belt
Novice Under 1 year Within first three grades, usually white to orange
Intermediate 1 to 2 years Coloured belts after third grade, usually green to purple
Advanced Over 2 years Brown or Black

When considering a division of ability, competitive experience should have more impact than belt colour as grading structure and frequency can differ greatly between clubs and associations eg. a red belt with nine months experience is a novice competitor whilst a purple belt with two or more years competitive experience is an advanced competitor - if you're unsure, please contact us prior to registration as competitors found to be in the wrong ability may be disqualified.

If, after pre-registration has closed, a selected category has no opponents, you will be contacted within 48 hours before the event and offered alternative suitable divisions. If no suitable alternative can be found then a refund will be offered.

If you enter all three sports of Point Fighting, Light Contact, and Karate Kumite you will automatically be entered to win a WKU Tri-Sport Master's title and could take home our exclusive Tri-Sport Masters Cup.

The highest scoring sum of points accumulated across all three sports will decide who is crowned the Tri-Sport Master.

In the case of multiple categories entered in one sport, the highest scoring points from a category will count towards your Masters total.

In the case of a draw, competitors must compete in two 1m 30s rounds to decide the winner, or one 1m 30s round robin if more than two competitors draw points. The sport chosen for a competitive draw will be decided by random selection.

The Tri-Sport Masters Cup is for advanced competitors only
