WKU England have received an official update from our president Klaus Nonnemacher updating us on the changes planned to accommodate the WKU 2021 World Championships which were originally due to be held in Canada this October. The WKU have consulted with the Quebec tourist board and feel they have no choice but to postpone the World Championships in Canada until 2021. A WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS WILL STILL TAKE PLACE THIS YEAR. WKU World Championships 2020 will be held in conjunction with the WMAC. The venue and exact date is yet to be confirmed but is expected to be around the end of October to the start of November and will take place in Germany.
It has also been announced that in 2022 the WKU World Championships is coming to the UK!! In October of 2022, the world championships will be held in the city of Cardiff, South Wales. This will be a very exciting and competitive event for the WKU teams of the UK and we look forward to getting a lot of support from our country's best.
It is disappointing to have so many great kickboxing and karate events cancelled this year but we have seen hundreds of our members taking part in online lessons which we think this is fantastic and shows true committment. Well done to all the instructors who have managed to adapt their premises and class structure around the necessary infection control standards - this will not be possible for all of our schools and look forward to a safer time when classes have returned to normal.
We are very hopeful that our English Open Championship will go ahead at the end of the year and will update our website as soon as we know more.
Until then, we wish all our WKU members and schools a very safe few months ahead - take care.
